Grown-Up & Me

Saturdays: 9:30am at the First Congregational Church in Etna; Tuesdays: 11:30am at the Millvale Community Library

There are so many benefits to early childhood music education, from cognitive and motor development to supporting healthy social-emotional skills in young children. Knowing that a majority of a person’s neural pathways develop between 0-4 years old, we can take advantage of this powerful time in a child’s life to start building the blocks that can empower a lifetime of meaningful engagement with music.

Through community partnerships, our Grown-Up and Me Classes are free to families, directly addressing issues of inequitable access to high-quality early childhood programming in our communities. We call our program "Grown-Up and Me" because we want all families and caregivers to feel seen and respected in our space. We refrain from using gendered language (like "mommy and me") or language that assumes all families are two-parent heteronormative households.

Our teachers are skilled, trained, fun, and deliver our research-backed curriculum with deep commitment!

Young children and their grown-ups will giggle, dance, shake scarves, play instruments, enjoy ear-training games, sing, and contribute to ideas in our classes.

Our curriculum features original songs designed to enhance social-emotional, cognitive, and motor development delivered through 100% live music.

Adaptive Music Club

Saturdays: 10:30 - 11:15am at the First Congregational Church in Etna

This is a fun, inclusive, and engaging space for youth registered in special education (and their friends!) to gain confidence, autonomy, and community through music. Students participate in sensory music-play, singing, composition, and improvisatory exercises that promote self-expression and creativity.

Sound Choices

Wednesdays: 6:30 - 7:30pm at You Be You Inc

You Be You Inc’s Sound Choices program is a direct response to the rise of youth substance abuse in our community. This program is a partnership with the Millvale Police Department’s Social Worker Alyssa Peters and the Millvale Community Library. Through community, choice-based musical expression (songwriting and music production) and nutritious meals, we foster a space that guides youth towards a creative outlet where they can make more empowered choices and express and explore who they are. Classes are one hour per week and open to any youth in grades 7-12 who are struggling with substance use.
